Joint Meeting Awards (April 5, 2014)
- On 5 April, 2014 the annual COMMUNITY AWARDS PRESENTATIONS were given by the Akron Chapter and Cuyahoga-Portage Chapter of the DAR and The Lafayette Chapter of the SAR. The event was at the Akron Woman’s City Club at 11:30 am.
- The Bronze Good Citizenship medal and certificate was presented to Mr. Frank and Mrs. Nancy Read for all their service to their community and church. Frank was not able to attend, but his wife Nancy accepted the award on their behalf.
- Over 20 members of the Lafayette Chapter and Western Reserve Society were in attendance with a large number of DAR ladies and guests. A number of Community and Student Youth Awards where presented by the DAR.
ROTC Awards
- Other Educational Institutions where Cadets received awards in 2014 from Lafayette SAR: Green High School,
- Kenmore High School, University of Akron, and Kent State University.
Elections Meeting (February 15, 2014)
- On Saturday, February 15, 2014 the Lafayette Chapter held their President's Day Meeting at the Fairlawn Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
90th Anniversary Meeting (11/9/2013)
- On November 9th, 2013 we celebrated our 90th Anniversary along with Akron Chapter DAR at the Fairlawn Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
- A large amount of planning was done so that we could minimize expenses and yet still have a great celebration meeting we could all be proud of.
- Numerous meetings were held. Many hours were devoted to insure a great meeting.

Brookfield Grave Marking
The annual Memorial Day parade formed at 9 a.m and began at 10 a.m.. It then continued to Brookfield Township Cemetery where a memorial service took place. Guest speakers were Dave and Dianne Allison, who presented a tribute. Lafayette SAR President Dave Allison performed a grave marking for the 11 Revolutionary War veterans buried in the cemetery. Five of the veterans recently received new tombstones from the VA.
Mrs. Lois Werner researched information regarding the location of the five veterans that did not have markers and acquired them from the VA.

1. Timothy Alderman-no Tombstone but listed on 1924 cemetery records. Born 1754, Northington, Conn, died Dec 28, 1815 in Brookfield. Pension denied because family gave wrong info, he served nearly 2 years as a private in 1778 in 1st Conn troops, 1780 in 2nd Conn troops-Nat. Archives
2. Abraham DeForest, b Mar 4, 1749, d Dec 11, 1847 in Brookfield. Wrong dates on newer tombstone. Served in NJ from 1775-1783. Was a courier and Ensign, pension received-Nat. Archives
3. Stephen Doughton, d 1830 Hubbard Township, OH, no tombstone but on the 1924 military list. Was a gunsmith in Valley Forge, PA. No other records available, on the DAR Official Roster and local history.
4. Bliss Hart, b Mar 10, 1761, Southington, Conn., d 6 Mar 1831 in Brookfield. Served 3 years-1777-1780- as a private-drummer and fifer- in the 8th Conn Regiment. Well documented, fine monument.
5. Isaac Hosford, b Aug 28, 1756, Poultney, Vermont (on tombstone), d May 28, 1826 in Brookfield. Served from Litchfield, Conn. On the DAR Official list, local list, no other records found.
6. Ethan Newcomb, b Jan 1, 1763, Downs, NJ, d Nov 19, 1849 in Brookfield. No tombstone but records say lot 144, no. 8. He was a private for 10 months in Capt. Low's Company and received a pension in 1833. Nat. Archives
7. Henry Taylor, b 1757 in Buck's Co., PA, d Apr 5, 1855 in Brookfield. Served in NJ in 1777, 1780, 1783 as a private. Pension received in 1833. Nat Archives
8. John Tribby II, b Sept 24, 1758 in Newport, RI, d May 1819 in Brookfield. No tombstone, listed on 1924 military list as lot 100, no. 6. He served as a sailor on the frigate Confederacy for Conn. Ship was captured by the British, well documented.
9. Daniel Williams, b Apr 27, 1759 in Watertown, Conn, d Aug 12, 1835 in Brookfield. No tombstone, old records say Lot 86, no. 8. He served in the Conn militia in 1776, 1779 and 1780. He received his pension in 1833. Nat Archives
10. Samuel Willson, b 1736 in Scotland, died Apr 7, 1820 in Brookfield. Served in PA militia from Cumberland Co. from 1776 to 1777. His tombstone says Colonel but have no records beyond private, DAR records say Major. He received his pension in 1833. Nat Archives
11. Philip E. Winterstein, b 1743 in Somerset, NJ, d Oct 4, 1829 in Brookfield. Listed as an Ensign in 1777 in NJ, no other records or pension records found. Nat Archives
